This was an exciting, Sold-Out performance. It featured works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Gliere and others. Included were selections with Russian folk ensembles of musicians and dancers, with arrangements specially prepared for performance with the Contra Costa Wind Symphony by Joe Smiell. Victor Lizun, Consul General of the Russian Federation, and his wife were in attendance.

In celebration of the Wind Symphony's 25th season and in recognition of the centennial of San Francisco's 1906 Earthquake, Cincinnati Pops composer and arranger Steven Reineke was commissioned by CCWS to write a major symphony. Mr. Reineke was present to conduct its World Premiere on the date of the centennial.
Also on the program was Wings, a significant new piano concerto by Belgian composer Piet Swerts, performed by Keenan Boswell. Commentary was provided by James Dalessandro, author of the recent novel 1906.
