CCWS continued it's tradition of
presenting innovative, entertaining music.

Featured was a new transcription of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." In a magical collaboration, Music Director Duane Carroll and artist Dorrie Bosley Langley produced a truly unique presentation of this very popular work.

Mussorgsky's original composition was inspired by a memorial exhibition of paintings by his friend Victor Hartmann. In a reversal of this process, this performance was illustrated by paintings inspired by Mussorgsky's music. Members of the Martinez Arts Association created original works of art based on this new transcription of Mussorgsky's original piano score. Choreographed images of their paintings were projected onto the Big Screen during the performance.

Specially designed lighting and staging provided an unusual extra dimension to the evening's performance.

The concert included two exciting new works. "The Wind In The Willows", by Johan de Meij, brought to life the characters from Kenneth Grahame's classic children's story, with CCWS's trombones sounding especially amphibious as the obsessed Mr. Toad. Also presented was Roger Cichy's "Bugs", a whimsical musical portrait of particular insects and spiders he observed at the Field Museum in Chicago.
